ABOUT ZUNAYED SABBIR AHMED

When it comes to music, Sabbir focuses on quality and originality, bravely choosing not to fall in step with the hordes of commercial musicians currently plaguing the nation. With a variety of influences ranging all the way from Jazzy Blues to Rock, his music can be described as nothing short of unique, often reminiscent of the products of the Bangla 'Jibonmukhi' music movement, only far more diverse and daring. His first album 'Niyomhin' hit the shops in late 2007, and became a cult hit over a fairly short time. The songs, while catchy and simple on first listen, have subtle surprises hidden here and there throughout the album, which makes it a pleasure to listen for casual listeners as well as connoisseurs and aficionados of good music. His second solo album, 'Onador-er Gan', is currently in production.

Along with his solo musical career, Sabbir is also the founder, bassist, composer and lyricist of Kalponik, one of the most powerful Experimental Rock bands to have emerged in Bangladesh in the new millennium. Sabbir's tendency to venture into new and unknown waters of art seems to be present among the other members of Kalponik as well, and Sabbir himself describes them as his brothers in arms, far more than simply a group of friends playing together. This is even more cemented by the fact that Kalponik's members see it as a lifetime-long commitment. After the release of six singles in the market, Kalponik's debut album 'Prothom Shurjodoy' was released this year, and was subject to widespread critical acclaim due to its bold presence and rich quality.

Art is not Sabbir's only forte. He is also the CEO and cofounder of Strawberry Catalyst, a new and fast-rising advertising/media/event management farm. Armed with nearly a decade of experience in the media arena, Sabbir is a formidable force when it comes to marketing, and his clients range from new fledgling firms to multinational conglomerates.

Sabbir also produces albums professionally for both upcoming and established musicians, overseeing every step of the production process personally. He has never forgotten his roots as a struggling musician, and holds a soft spot for young, talented artists, often going out of his way to serve as a guiding mentor to them and prioritizing the successful production of their albums over making large profits – acts which have earned him countless degrees of love and respect from them as well as from other artists of his generation.
